Tunable Metasurface With Dynamic Amplitude and Phase Control

Tunable metasurfaces are of great potential for the next-generation electromagnetic systems (e.g. beamforming due to capabilities ultra-fast reconfiguration speed and agile beam programming on go). The fundamental aspects tunable laid their freedom in manipulating phase amplitude outgoing wavefront. However, current research heavily focused manipulation while left barely explored. To unlock full metasurfaces, this article, a novel metasurface design with capability control both transmitted wavefront has been designed, simulated, characterized experimentally. By incorporating individual modules under guidance equivalent circuit models, proposed achieved arbitrary tuning maintaining reasonably low physical profile. measurement results fabricated samples validated procedure fulfilled flexibility terms tuning, also paved way towards achieving more powerful dynamic metasurfaces.
